Critically maligned upon release, it has plenty of stalwart defenders, including myself. Those critics can go swallow an egg. No, it doesn’t compare to the iconic Wizard Of Oz, but no movie could. Taken on its own terms, it’s dark and creepy and weird, and that’s why I love it. And Jack Pumpkinhead is one of the most endearing movie characters ever.
