Clinton touts popular-vote count in thank you message to supporters

From: Politico
Hillary Clinton thanked her supporters Monday in an end-of-year email.

“Before this year ends, I want to thank you again for your support of our campaign,” Clinton wrote. “While we didn’t achieve the outcome we sought, I’m proud of the vision and values we fought for and the nearly 66 million people who voted for them.”

Clinton, the former secretary of state and twice-failed presidential candidate, garnered nearly 66 million votes in November’s election against Donald Trump — nearly 3 million more than the president-elect, who secured the presidency by winning a majority of Electoral College votes.

“I believe it is our responsibility to keep doing our part to build a better, stronger, and fairer future for our country and the world,” she continued, echoing her campaign’s mantra of “stronger together.” “The holidays are a time to be thankful for our blessings. So let us rejoice in this season and look forward with renewed hope and determination.”

Clinton conceded the election to Trump on Nov. 9, telling supporters that she had offered to work with the president-elect on the county’s behalf and imploring them to have an open mind and give him a chance to lead.

She has largely stayed out of the spotlight since her concession speech, with the exception of an appearance at the Newseum, where she was honored by the Children’s Defense Fund a week after the election, and remarks she delivered on the Hill during a tribute to retiring Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid earlier this month.

“I wish you and your family health, happiness, and continued strength for the New Year and the work ahead,” Clinton’s email said. “I look forward to staying in touch in 2017. Onward!”
