Santa Claus Conquers the Homophobes
Robert Devereaux

"I wish I could hope to ever attain one-thousandth the perversity of Robert Devereaux's toenail clippings."
-Poppy Z. Brite

Santa Claus is back.

And flying beside him is Wendy, his freshly minted stepdaughter, who can peer into the future of selected children and offer them glimpses of the wonders ahead.

But with that power come horrific visions of the turmoil and trouble the less fortunate among them are fated to suffer.

Can Wendy and her stepfather prevent the suicide of Jamie Stratton in his teen years, as he grows up gay in a homophobic household and community? God the Father grants them three Thanksgiving visits to Jamie's tormentors, in hopes of bringing about a change of heart in them and eliminating their ingrained prejudices.

Okay, to be fair, Ciao doesn't technically have a sex scene – but the emotional climax features what may be one of the longest, most passionate kisses – gay or straight – we've ever seen in a movie. It’s amazing.

Angel Fournier Rodriguez – CUB M1X

We've all been waiting for it, and it finally happened:  Angel –dubbed affectionately “the Big Cuban” by FISA announcers—has broken in to the medals.  Watching his journey over the past several years culminated in a great amount of wild clapping and cheering in the Grandstands on Finals day, where I was seated near the rest of the Cuban delegation.  It goes without saying, observing their reception of their teammate after his silver medal performance (hugs and happy tears from all around) was a very special and moving experience.

Top 100 Hits Of The Ladies Of the 80′s

From: The Backlot
Sheena Easton
The second Sheena song on the list comes from my favorite Sheena album, 1983′s Best Kept Secret (which also included the faboo “Almost Over You, Devil In A Fast Car” and a terrific cover of “Just One Smile”) Although 1984′s A Private Heaven is a very close second. Anyway, “Telefone” hit #9 in November 1983.

Actress Glenn Close, who I  loved on Damages turns 67 today.
The next two pics really don't show much of Glenn, but they are a nice excuse to show a little Michael Douglass bootie from Fatal Attraction.

Favorite Birthday Boy #2 for March 19th

Bruce Willis
From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
Bruce Willis, whom I did not like so much in Moonlighting, but whom I loved in the original Die Hard turns 59 today.

Walter Bruce Willis (born March 19, 1955) is an American actor, producer, and singer. His career began on the Off-Broadway stage and then in television in the 1980s, most notably as David Addison in Moonlighting (1985–89) and has continued both in television and film since, including comedic, dramatic, and action roles. Probably best known for his role of John McClane in the Die Hard series, which were mostly critical and uniformly financial successes. He has also appeared in over sixty films, including the box office hits, Pulp Fiction (1994), 12 Monkeys (1995), The Fifth Element (1997), Armageddon (1998), The Sixth Sense (1999), Unbreakable (2000), and Sin City (2005).

Motion pictures featuring Willis have grossed US$2.64 billion to 3.05 billion at North American box offices, making him the ninth highest-grossing actor in a leading role and twelfth highest including supporting roles. He is a two-time Emmy Award–winning, Golden Globe Award–winning and four-time Saturn Award–nominated actor. Willis was married to actress Demi Moore and they had three daughters before their divorce in 2000, following thirteen years of marriage. He is married to model Emma Heming.

Willis was born on March 19, 1955 in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany. His father, David Willis, was an American soldier. His mother, Marlene K., was German, and had been born in Kaufungen, near Kassel. Willis is the oldest of four children: he has a sister, Florence, and a brother, David. His brother Robert died of pancreatic cancer in 2001, aged 42. After being discharged from the military in 1957, Willis's father took his family back to Carneys Point, New Jersey. Willis has described himself as having come from a "long line of blue collar people"; his mother worked in a bank and his father was a welder, master mechanic, and factory worker. Willis attended Penns Grove High School in his hometown, where he encountered issues with a stutter. He was nicknamed Buck-Buck by his schoolmates. Finding it easy to express himself on stage and losing his stutter in the process, Willis began performing on stage and his high school activities were marked by such things as the drama club and student council president.

After high school, Willis took a job as a security guard at the Salem Nuclear Power Plant and also transported work crews at the DuPont Chambers Works factory in Deepwater, New Jersey.

After working as a private investigator (a role he would play in the television series Moonlighting as well as in the 1991 film, The Last Boy Scout), Willis turned to acting. He enrolled in the drama program at Montclair State University, where he was cast in the class production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Willis left school in his junior year and moved to New York City, where in the early 1980s he supported himself as a bartender at the West 19th Street art bar Kamikaze.

After multiple auditions, Willis made his theater debut in the off-Broadway production of Heaven and Earth. He gained more experience and exposure in Fool for Love, and in a Levi's commercial. Willis also played a lead role in the Off-Broadway production of writer-director Dennis Watlington Bullpen for four years.

Favorite Birthday Boy #1 for March 19th

 Michael Bergin
From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
Actor and model Michael Bergin turns 45 today.

Michael John Bergin (born March 18, 1969) is an American model and actor. Bergin is considered to have been one of the first males to have achieved supermodel status, previously reserved for women such as Cindy Crawford, Elle Macpherson, Naomi Campbell, and Iman.

Born in Naugatuck, Connecticut, Bergin attended the University of Connecticut. He began modeling while in college.

Bergin is perhaps best known as Mark Wahlberg's successor in Calvin Klein's racy series of black and white underwear ads. His 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m) frame and washboard abs (widely cited as his professional signature) gained international exposure in print ads and, notably, on a 96 ft × 70 ft (29 m × 21 m) billboard in New York City's Times Square.
In addition to his high-profile role as the "spokesbody" for Calvin Klein, Bergin has walked the runways of New York City, Paris and Milan for Sonia Rykiel, Valentino, Calvin Klein, Gianfranco Ferre, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent and Donna Karan and was the exclusive model for Claiborne for Men, a division of Liz Claiborne, Inc., for over three years. He has also appeared in commercials and print advertisements for Kellogg's, Bacardi Rum, L'Orรฉal, Maybelline, Coty, Valentino, Perry Ellis, and Liz Claiborne. Bergin is signed to Wilhelmina Models in New York City, and New York Model Management.

Apart from the fashion industry, Bergin also ventured into acting, playing the character J.D. Darius on Baywatch and later Baywatch Hawaii for 88 episodes from 1997 to 2001, and starring as the same character in the made-for-TV Film Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding in 2003.

In 2006, he appeared on VH1's sci-fi celeb reality show Celebrity Paranormal Project. Bergin later launched his own brand of men's underwear.

In the early 1990s, Bergin met Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, a Calvin Klein publicist, whom he dated seriously, despite her burgeoning relationship with John F. Kennedy, Jr., whom she later married in September 1996. Kennedy and Bessette-Kennedy died in a fatal plane crash in July 1999. In early 2004, Bergin published a book about his relationship with Bessette, The Other Man, claiming that they continued a sexual affair during the time Bessette was dating Kennedy and during their marriage.

On September 24, 2004, Bergin married makeup artist Joy Tilk with whom he has two children.

Bergin was arrested for drunk driving in 2004, on the fifth anniversary of Bessette-Kennedy's death.

Bergin has worked with the anti-drug children's program D.A.R.E. as a national spokesperson, and has lent his name, time, and image to numerous AIDS charities.
