Urban stripper drama Chocolate City has found its lead in rapper-actor Romeo Miller, AKA Lil’ Romeo. The chart-topping No Limit recording artist and ex-Nickelodeon star will play Devin, a young college student who’s lured into the world of male exotic dancing to pay the bills. Newcomer Eurika Pratts (Gang of Roses 2, Basketball Girlfriends) has also been cast as Carmen, the girlfriend whose relationship with Devin becomes strained by his new career.
The indie project from writer-director Jean Claude LaMarre (Color of the Cross) is aiming to ride the tearaway coattails of Channing Tatum and Steven Soderbergh’s box office hit Magic Mike. Production is gearing up for an LA shoot slated to begin at the end of June. Last week Michael Jai White and Tyson Beckford were cast as the club owner and former star performer who introduce Devin to the life of the male stripper. Miller’s film credits include Honey, 2011′s Jumping the Broom, and Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection. He starred in his own Nickelodeon show, Romeo!, for three seasons and next appears in Jamal Hill’s Brotherly Love with Keke Palmer and indie sports drama One Heart. LaMarre is producing for his Nulite banner alongside Gabriel Casseus (Takers) and Robert Aaronson, as well as Rozina Negusei for Zanar Entertainment.
