This is opposed to one of the best scenes of 2016 we saw 5 days into the new year, with Jerry Cabrera and Neal Peterson at GayHoopla.
The best bottoms make the best tops. Some of the best scenes of the last year involve guys who normally bottom taking on the top roles and giving impressive performances. There are surely others, but Michael Delray and Micah Brandt are top-of-mind.
However, the best bottoms making the best tops doesn't have to necessarily mean bottoms taking on the top role - what if it meant bottoms training tops to be all that they can be?
That's what Dolf Dietrich does with "All-American" boy Daniel Duress.
Dolf, a vers-bottom himself, doesn't top Daniel Duress, but he was in the mood for something different. We know Dolf likes his men a little more rugged (like his boyfriend Hugh Hunter), but this time, he was feeling someone a little more...nondescript. He called up Daniel, who he had been chatting, so they could fuck and film the whole thing. Dolf's plan was to make a man - AND a top - out of Daniel, and Dolf's bossy-bottom side comes out in the process.
It eventually works out, but Daniel looks awkward the whole time. He looks even more awkward than Chandler Hawk did, as he lost his virginity on-camera at Guys In Sweatpants.
I don't know about you, but to me, this doesn't read like "Dolf Dietrich decided he wanted to do something different". To me, this screams "Dolf's scene partner couldn't show, neither could plan B, nor could plan C. They called plan D - Daniel Duress, and he was available. Daniel didn't realize what he was getting into - shooting porn is way harder than it looks, and he didn't realize it was so much work! But he, along with the coaching of porn veteran Dolf Dietrich, made it through the scene, thank God".
The fact that Dolf was able to somehow carry this scene, and make it watchable, puts him in the higher realm of porn actor - can we call him a porn star, or is that a little far off?
