Grammys Will Include Musical Tribute To George Michael

The awards show will also honor Prince, who died in April.

We’re still reeling from the death of George Michael last Christmas at age 53. The out pop star will be honored during the 2017 Grammy Awards, airing Sunday at 8 pm on CBS.

The annual ceremony will also feature a segment paying homage to Prince, who passed away April 21.

“George Michael and Prince were pop icons who showcased rare musical genius and otherworldly charisma,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. “While each possessed a distinct style and sound, they were both adored by audiences worldwide. The passings of two such creative innovators were a huge loss for the creative community; The Recording Academy is humbled to pay homage to their tremendous legacies on the Grammy stage.”

Exactly who will perform in either segment is being kept under wraps until air date, but whomever it is, this year’s Grammy’s promises some showstopping performances—including Lady Gaga collaborating with metal legends Metallica. Gaga was tapped to tribute David Bowie, who died last January, at the 2016 Grammys.

Other musicians who passed away last year include Glen Frey, Vanity, Pete Burns, Sonny James, Holly Dunn and A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg.
