It’s not a religious song, but the video was a spiritual uprising. “Losing My Religion” is a supercharged blitz of unsettling religious iconography (including some shots of St. Sebastian, out gayest saint) and Michael Stipe’s whirlybird choreography. Sure he stole it from Sinead O’Connor‘s “The Emperor’s New Clothes” video, but you know what? This is a gay guy being gay and doing it in front of sanctified imagery. As I said before: Hell yes to this man and band.
