Out “Love & Hip Hop” Star Milan Christopher Drops Music Video About LGBT Suicide

"It made me relive so many situations I have been in in my past, but [it's] a much-needed visual for our culture."

Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood star Milan Christopher tackles domestic violence and LGBT suicide — issues that plague the LGBT community at a higher rate than others — in a new music video for his latest single, “When I Go.”

The 30-year-old rapper first made headlines last year as the first openly gay Love & Hip Hop cast member, and was praised by LGBT advocates for documenting his experience as a gay man in the oft-homophobic hip-hop music industry.

Last October, he revealed to NewNowNext that he knows hip-hop artists who are gay but choose to remain closeted publicly for the sake of their careers.

“I’ve worked with artists who are actually gay and live to the public as though they are straight. We’re friends, and we take no pictures together, we don’t follow each other, because of what people think about homosexuality in our community,” Christopher told us. “It’s like the biggest defamation or derogatory term used in the African American hip-hop culture so they don’t want to be involved or associated with someone who is openly gay because it ultimately affects their brand.”

In the new video, Christopher sheds light on the topics of bullying and domestic violence by showing himself being harassed on the street and then beaten up by a lover.

“Watching this video back was extremely hard for me; it made me relive so many situations I have been in in my past, but a much-needed visual for our culture,” he told The Los Angeles Times. “It was a story that had to be told and give a voice to the voiceless and to help all who have been through and going through the same situation.”

“When I Go” is now available on Christopher’s debut album, The Alpha. Check out the video below:
