Anderson Cooper Shares The Painful Memories Of His Mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, In “Nothing Left Unsaid”

"As a young kid I didn't' know the origins of the sadness that permeated her life."
From: NewNowNext
Anderson Cooper speaks candidly about his relationship with his mother, famed heiress, designer and philanthropist Gloria Vanderbilt, in a new trailer for the upcoming HBO documentary Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt and Anderson Cooper.

The 92-year-old Vanderbilt was born into one of America’s richest families and gave birth to Anderson, her fourth son by screenwriter Wyatt Cooper, in 1967.

Anderson spends time in the trailer below unpacking the differences between the Cooper side of his family and the Vanderbilts, whom he never really felt connected to.

The documentary, according to an exclusive first look posted by Entertainment Weekly, is “an attempt by Cooper to explore his Vanderbilt side – via his mother’s extraordinary life – and to ask his mother anything he’s ever wanted to know, including about the tragedies of her life.”

“As a young kid I didn’t’ know the origins of the sadness that permeated her life,” he says. “At 91, She has this drive, and that drive makes it impossible to have a calm existence.”

Speaking with EW, Vanderbilt said: “I hope the film might encourage people to communicate with the ones they love, and to do it without getting too sidetracked by anger or fear, but to really feel safe and open so that you’re not blocked. I think that may take time and age, but the sooner you can do it the better. It’s life changing and changes the way you see the world.”

Check out the trailer below. Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt and Anderson Cooper premieres Saturday, April 9 on HBO.
