From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
Another of my favorite actors from abroad, Tom Wlaschiha turns 41 today.
Thomas "Tom" Wlaschiha (born 20 June 1973) is a German TV, film, stage, and voice actor. Internationally, he is known for his role as Jaqen H'ghar in the second season of the TV series Game of Thrones.
Wlaschiha was born in Dohna, then in East Germany. His surname is of Czech origin, as his ancestors arrived from there around the beginning of the 19th century. When he was 17 years old, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, he traveled to New York City as an exchange student. He remained there for a year, acting in theater and studying English.
He received acting training at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig from 1992 to 1996, and attended the Conservatoire pour les Arts Liège in 1994.
Since 1998, he has played mostly supporting roles in numerous German and international TV and film productions. His first leading role was that of Stephan in the 2000 gay milieu study No One Sleeps. In August 2011, he was cast as the convict and assassin Jaqen H'ghar in the second season of the HBO fantasy TV series Game of Thrones.
On stage, Wlaschiha has performed with the Theater Junge Generation in Dresden from 1996 until 2000, with the Schauspielhaus Zürich in 2002 and with the Schauspiel Frankfurt in 2003. As a voice actor, Wlaschiha is heard in film dubs, audiobooks and commercials.
