The Underwear Expert: Do you have aspirations to model underwear professionally?
Matt: I've never had ambitions of being a professional model. It’s always been something I've done for fun on the side.
UX: What’s your favorite style of underwear? Do you have a favorite brand?
Matt: I wear both briefs and boxer briefs, but prefer briefs. I don’t have a favorite brand, in particular, but I wear a lot of Calvin Klein. I like their sueded microfiber fabric.
UX: How do you keep your body in shape?
Matt: I stay in shape by eating right and going to the gym. I make sure I always eat breakfast to give my metabolism a good kick start at the beginning of each day and then I take my vitamins. I’m a big proponent of Omega 3′s so I always make sure to take my fish oil every day. I keep my meals as balanced as I can. I make sure to load up on the protein so I stay full and eat veggies for the nutrients. I also have at least one serving of a complex carb with all my meals.
When I’m hungry during the day I’ll snack on almonds or beef jerky. There are also these organic, gluten-free bars called Ginny Bars that I love to eat. They’re made of sunflower seeds and shredded coconut and are wicked tasty. I always make sure that I drink plenty of water throughout the day and while I work at my desk I drink green tea.
I tend to hit the gym 4 days a week. I typically warm up with 15-20 minutes of cardio and then hit the weights. When I really want to tone-up I do Shaun T’s Insanity. It’s a pretty grueling workout, but the results are undeniable.
UX: What sort of graphic design work to you do? Do you have a particular specialty?
Matt: I do some freelance work and I also work for a large performing arts center. I design mostly advertising and promotional materials. I don’t have a particular specialty because I like all design and could never limit myself to just one aspect. I tend to do a lot of corporate design so I really enjoy it when I have free-range to create what I want.
UX: What’s the craziest thing you've ever done?
I've had quite a few crazy experiences. Most from when I was younger, in college and a bit more carefree….Recently, though, I had the opportunity to co-pilot a biplane on Martha’s Vineyard and fly out over the Atlantic Ocean. The pilot was a certified aerobatic and a friend of one of my friends. Such an amazing sensation to glide in a plane 15 feet above the ocean at 200 mph with the wind blowing in your hair. The pilot was also sure to to maneuver a few flips and nose dives. I hate planes so it was a pretty big feat for me and something I’ll never forget.
