Why Is “Grey Gardens” Such A Gay Classic?

Mother darling...
From: NewNowNext
In 1976, the world was introduced to Edie Bouvier Beale, and her mother, “Big” Edie, in the Maysles Brothers groundbreaking documentary Grey Gardens.

The story of a high-society mother and daughter rooting around in a dilapidated Hamptons mansion overrun with newspapers, cats and raccoons inspired a hit Broadway musical, a TV film starring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore and more than one Drag Race star’s revolutionary costume for today.

Logo presents Cocktails and Classics: Grey Gardens this Sunday at 8/7. Below, Michael Urie, Drew Droege, DJ “Shangela” Pierce, Yamaneika Saunders and Michael Musto discuss why the film has such enduring appeal for queer audiences.

And what better way to enjoy the film than with a delicious cocktail. Right, check out the recipe for a refreshing East Hampton.
