Olly Alexander At Glastonbury: “Shove A Rainbow In Fear’s Face”

"I’m here, I’m queer, and yeah sometimes I am afraid but I am never ashamed because I am proud of who I am!"
From: NewNowNext
Years & Years front-man Olly Alexander gave an impassioned speech at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, urging fans to stand in solidarity with the LGBT community in light of the recent mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

BBC Radio 1 recorded the speech and posted it on Twitter Sunday. In it, Alexander, decked out in a fierce rainbow-colored outfit, reflected on all the “scary and messed up stuff” that has affected the queer community so far this year.

“Now, as a queer person, as queer people, we know what it’s like to be scared,” he began. “We know what it’s like to live with fear, as part of our every day.”

“But, tonight at Glastonbury,” he implored, “I would like to ask you to join me on Pride weekend, and say ‘no thank you fear.’ To say, ‘bye fear, bye.’ To literally shove a rainbow in fear’s face.”

“And all I have to say to finish is, I’m here, I’m queer, and yeah sometimes I am afraid but I am never ashamed because I am proud of who I am!”

The video has quickly gone viral, with LGBT fans the world over tweeting out their appreciation for the band’s unshakable pride.
