Hans Fahrmeyer & An Eric Extra

From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
'While some photographers try to beautify and smooth out rough edges, Hans strives to tap into them, bringing out a sexual urgency unique to Hans work. When I see a model shot by Hans, I usually see something unique brought out, something others may brush over, Hans taps into and brings to life.'

November on FH ended with the welcomed return of Sunday's With Hans. The series, featuring the work of New York artist Hans Fahrmeyer, began in 2009 with close to 80 different pieces showcasing the many men shot by Hans. In the November feature, A Sunday's Return, the spotlight was on Eric, whose sultry side was perfectly captured by Hans.
I knew at the time that I was going to be going away and incredibly busy over the holidays, so tucked away some of the shots to save for this week. I know it's not Sunday, but for this week, it's Tuesday with Hans. There was also almost a festive feel to the images due to the way Hans surrounded Eric with so many beautifully muted colors.

Hans work is often referred to as erotically charged, and very good reason. Although many images of the male form can be described as erotic, not all photographers capture it the same way, or to the same degree. Some are subtle, some even attempt to hide, or mask erotic content, some for creative reasons, some others, almost in fear of offending groups of viewers.

Hans shows no fear within his artistry, he knows his audience, and clearly understands, those who might be offended by overt eroticism, were never going to be members of audience, no matter how subtle the carnality was presented. Hans sensuous final images come not just from his shooting, but because of the time and care he puts into the editing and processing of his work. As long as I have been featuring Hans work, I can feel part of his passion is working with his images, both with editing, and through collage and video.
