A Nebraska man is facing felony child abuse and false imprisonment charges after duct-taping two young boys he was babysitting to chairs, forcing them to watch the film Mommie Dearest.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 29-year-old Glenn Oliver was asked by the boys’ mother, his girlfriend, to look after them while she worked Sunday. In court documents, Oliver claimed she told him the boys had to watch the movie.
When the boys, ages four and six, wouldn’t listen and refused to watch the movie, Oliver covered their mouths with duct tape, and then used it to shackle their wrists, chests, ankles and heads to the chairs.
The boys, including a third child who was not duct-taped, were discovered by a neighbor who frequently visits the residence. She was able to calmly lead the boys out of the house by asking Oliver if they could come with her to help clean her home.
Oliver reportedly told Officer Benjamin Murry, who responded to the scene, that he “didn’t think it was that big of a deal.”
THR reports that, according to Murry, “the duct tape was very tight on the youngest of the boys…and in his opinion the child could have been at risk for positional asphyxia.”
Oliver’s bond was set at $50,000, though there is a hold on him because he was on parole at the time of the crime. He’ll appear in court for the first time September 21.
