Internet billionaire Peter Thiel just wrote a check for $1.25 million to help Donald Trump’s flagging presidential campaign.
Thiel, who co-founded PayPal and was an early Facebook investor, is making the donation through a combination of direct contributions to Trump’s campaign and Super PACs, the Washington Blade confirms.
Thiel, 48, has also donated to Carly Fiorina’s failed presidential campaign, Utah Republican Mike Lee’ senate bid, and gay sheriff Paul Babeu’s House campaign in Arizona.
Though cagey on LGBT rights, Trump has promised supporters he would work to undo marriage equality and nominate Supreme Court justices whose politics align with the late Antonin Scalia.
In his convention speech in July, Thiel praised Trump’s views on foreign policy and the war on terror, and called issues like North Carolina’s bathroom bill “a distraction from our real problems.”
Earlier this year, he admitted he spent $10 million to finance several lawsuits against Gawker, which had outed him as gay in 2007. Faced with crippling debt, the blog shuttered in August.
“A story that violates privacy and serves no public interest should never be published,” said Thiel.
