Speaking at an anti-LGBT conference in Houston over the weekend, hate group leader Steve Hotze compared gays to termites and said the “homosexual political movement” is eating away at the foundation of the country.
Hotze serves president of the Conservative Republicans of Texas, considered an anti-LGBT hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Last year, Hotze bankrolled the campaign to repeal Houston’s Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO).
Hotze made his latest bigoted remarks during the Stand4Truth conference, a gathering of prominent anti-LGBT activists and “ex-gay” therapists that promised to reveal “the politically incorrect truth about sexuality and gender.”
According to a clip of Hotze’s speech posted by Right Wing Watch, he said “the homosexual movement” has “infiltrated” American society.
“Think of them like termites,” he said. “They get into the wood of the house and they eat away at the very moral fabric of the foundation of our country.”
Hotze went on to compare the LGBT movement to Marxism and falsely allege that it’s illegal in some parts of the country to speak against homosexuality, Right Wing Watch reports.
During the anti-HERO campaign, Hotze wielded a sword on stage at an anti-gay rally and pledged to drive “homofascists” out of Houston and back to San Francisco.
Hotze has also recently likened gays to murderers and compared same-sex marriage to the Holocaust. In the wake of the Obergefell v. Hodges decision, he called Supreme Court justicies “lousy bastards” who “hate God” and “want to let Sodomites queer our country.” And he said the decision would lead to teachers encouraging kindergarteners to try anal sex.
