4 Guys Charged for Using Grindr to Kidnap, Beat and Rob Gay Men

Busted and facing a host of charges
From: Gay Pop Buzz
In Texas, four men face felony charges for posing as gay while using the hook-up app Grindr to assault and rob people.

Per a report in the New York Post:

Anthony Shelton, 19; Nigel Garrett, 21; Chancler Encalade, 20; and Cameron Ajiduah, 18, were named in a federal indictment on Wednesday that charged them with conspiring to assault the men because of their sexual orientation.

Claiming to be one gay man, the suspects would arrange meet-ups with men at their homes in the Dallas suburbs of Plano, Frisco and Aubrey. They allegedly staged four home invasions between January 17 and February 7.

Upon entering the victim’s home, the defendants assaulted the victim, restrained the victim with tape, and made derogatory statements about the victim being gay,” the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement.”
Allegedly, the men were armed during the home invasions and would steal automobiles and other property. The four have also been charged with conspiracy, kidnapping, carjacking and possession of a firearm.

Current law states that this type of hate crimes carries a maximum penalty of life in prison plus $250,000 a fine. According to local reporting, a grand jury returned an 18-count indictment against the men related to four incidents that happened in Plano, Frisco and Aubrey, Texas.

Last week, GPB reported that Marlyland police nabbed two men who were using gay hookup apps for similar reasons. In April, another man was charged in Florida for trying to kidnap and rob a man, plus steal his dog.

In an effort to help gay men using hookup apps remain safe, many LGBT focused websites have published guides on how to minimize the possibility of problems. For example, Pink News has a 15-point post with practice insight with an eye towards prevention. You can review this guide by clicking on this link.

Groovy Guy: Michael Parks
The actor, who died Tuesday at age 77, was best known for his television roles - the soul-searching Jim Bronson in the 1969-70 NBC drama, Then Came Bronson, black sheep Philip Colby on the second season (1986-87) of the ABC prime time soap opera, The Colbys, and the ruthless Jean Renault on the second season (1990-91) of the ABC series, Twin Peaks. He also appeared in many films, including Bus Riley's Back in Town (1965), The Bible: In the Beginning... (1966) as Adam, The Happening (1967), Hard Country (1981), The Return of Josey Wales (1986), Storyville (1992), From Dusk till Dawn (1996), Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003), Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), Grindhouse (2007) and Argo (2012). 24 Obscure Kinks and Fetishes of Gay Men

From: The Advocate
A word of warning from Alex Cheves

My name is Alexander Cheves and I am known by friends in the kink and leather community as Beastly. I am a sex-positive writer and blogger. The views in this series do not reflect those of the The Advocate and are based solely off my own experiences. Like everything I write, the intent of the piece is to break down the stigmas surrounding the sex lives of gay men.

Those who are sensitive to frank discussions about sex are invited to click elsewhere, but consider this: If you are outraged buy content that address sex openly and honestly, I invite you to examine this outrage and ask yourself whether it should instead be directed at those who oppress us by policing out sexuality.

For all others, enjoy the series. And feel free to leave your own suggestions of sex and dating topics in the comments

Sport Sunday: Roma, Golf, Nadal and Totti at the Beach

From: Speed o Rex
 In California
The Amgen Tour of California starts on Sunday, featuring seven stages in it's twelfth year of competition.  This year, for the first time, the race has achieved the World Tour designation on the UCI calendar, and the race is ready to roll out of Sacramento on May 14. Along the way, the race will visit iconic southern California beach towns, spend a day or two in the mountains and then storm into downtown Pasadena on May 20 for the finish and ensuing celebrations.  Stage five will see the climb to Mt. Baldy, and annual feature, it seems, of the race.  12 teams will compete this year, including Bora-Hansgrohe.  Their rider, Peter Sagan, has been called the "King of California," as he loves this race, and the Californians love this free wheeling champion Slovak.  Meanwhile back in the south, the Giro d'Italia continues today in southern Italy, with tomorrow being a rest day.

 In Rome
Rome's Foro Italico will host the Rome International BNL of Tennis this week, with Final Qualifying rounds taking place today.    Italian veteran Fabio Fognini will face countryman Matteo Berrattini in one of the five men’s singles matches taking place on the opening day of the main draw at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The winner of this match will face defending champion and world No. 1 Andy Murray in the second round.  The all-Italian clash is not the only all-country affair on Sunday as Germany’s Florian Mayer and Philipp Kohlschreiber play each other on Next Gen Arena. Center Court action begins at noon on Sunday, a meeting between Spaniard Fernando Verdasco and American Donald Young, both left handers. Verdasco has won on the three previous occasions in which the two have met.

 In Florida, USA
The Players Golf Championship wraps up today, at The Players Stadium Course is TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.  as of Saturday, Louis Oosthuizen and Kyle Stanley were in the lead, both at 9 under par.  The overall purse in the event is 10.5 million dollars.

NBA Conference finals will begin tomorrow, at least that is for one conference, the other finals teams have not yet been set.  The Golden State Warriors play at home vs. the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Sunday afternoon.  The Eastern Conference Finals teams are not yet set.  The Cleveland Cavaliers, who are in the finals, eventually will play the winner of Game 7 of the Boston Celtics-Washington Wizards playoff  match, which will finally decide who advances on Monday evening. The Wizards were able to win Friday night's game to keep their hopes alive, tying the record 3-3.

 In Italy
In Serie A Soccer action, Roma meets Juventus Sunday evening, and both sides are seeking a win with ulterior motives.  Second-placed AS Roma host leaders Juventus in Serie A this evening but rather than thinking about trying to catch the runaway leaders they will be looking over their shoulders at their rivals Napoli, over whom they have one point.  A first or second place finish means an automatic Champions League berth.  Juventus need only a point to wrap up their sixth successive title.  Third place means no automatic bid, but instead  a spot in the final playoff round.  Italian team have not done well in these playoffs.   Juventus Coach Miassimiliano Allegri wants the Champions League question settled, so they can prepare for this years final against Real Madrid, and Wednesday's Coppa Italia final.

Roma has been winning lately, but has become disrupted by controversy.  40 year-old Francesco Totti has been a key player for Roma since his teen age years, but the administration last week announced that he would stop playing at the end of the season and move to a boardroom role.  Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti has been imbroigled in this intrigue.  He has severely limited Totti's play this season to celebrity appearances, off or on the field, and been rather nasty in doing it, perhaps engineering the announcement of the much beloved Totti retirement.  Totti, with characteristic good humor, has joked about being able to play for the indefinite future, before saying he might talk about things.  Totti is forecast, by all reliable sources, to be around Roma much longer than Luciano Spalletti and his brutta figura...

Sean Spicer And Donald Trump Passionately Kiss In “SNL” Sketch

"I’m famous, it’s okay."
From: NewNowNext
On last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live, host Melissa McCarthy reprises her role as cantankerous White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

In the political sketch, Spicer confronted Trump—played to perfection as usual by Alec Baldwin—about rumors that he’ll soon be replaced by Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Is Trump lying to his little buddy?

“Sean, come on, I would never do that. She doesn’t have your special spice—salt and pepper, a little bit of sugar,” Trump flirts. “Sean, kiss me.”

“No, I’m married,” Spicer protests. “I can’t, I have a wife, I took vows!”

“I’m famous, it’s okay,” Trump says.

“Is this like The Godfather when you kiss me and no one ever sees me again?” Spicer asks. Let’s all hope so.

The makeout session comes only weeks after Stephen Colbert was heavily criticized for making a oral sex joke about Trump and Vladimir Putin on The Late Show that many perceived as homophobic: “In fact, the only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s cock holster.” Will the FCC be investigating this gag too?

Watch the SNL sketch below.

‘RENT’ SET AS FOX’S NEXT LIVE MUSICAL

Fox has found its follow-up to Grease Live
From: Bear World
Following prolonged negotiations, Jonathan Larson’s Tony-winning HIV/AIDS-themed musical Rent is set as the network’s next live musical, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Larson’s estate is on board to exec produce alongside Marc Platt (La La Land, Wicked). Rent marks Platt’s latest live project for following NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar and Fox’s newly announced A Christmas Story and last year’s Grease. Additional auspices, as well as a premiere date and casting, will be announced later.

The rock musical — loosely based on La Boheme — tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York’s East Village in the days of the Bohemian Alphabet City and under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play was created by Larson, who died suddenly before Rent opened Off-Broadway in 1996 and then moved to Broadway. Rent won Tony Awards for best musical, best book of a musical and original score — all for Larson — and scored co-lead Wilson Jermaine Heredia a win for featured actor for his performance as Angel Dumott Schunard, a drag queen drummer with HIV/AIDS.

Rent was Jonathan’s dream of sharing the theater and the passion he had for it with a whole new generation,” said Julie and Al Larson. “None of us could have imagined the massive impact that the messages and themes in Rent would have on the theater community or the world … except for Jonathan. We are absolutely thrilled to be continuing Jonathan’s legacy and the still-relevant themes of the show in this way.”

The original Broadway cast also included Adam Pascal, Daphne-Rubin-Vega and Idina Menzel, who all collected Tony nominations, as well as Anthony Rapp, Jesse L. Martin and Taye Diggs.

“We are so honored to partner with the estate of the brilliant Jonathan Larson and producer Marc Platt on one of the great musicals of our time,” said Dana Walden and Gary Newman, chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group. “The title is so iconic, the music is so beloved, and the themes are as meaningful today as they were when the show first premiered on Broadway. With Marc overseeing this project, we are sure it will have a profound impact on the legions of fans who know and love this musical.”

The production was adapted for the big-screen in 2005 with Chris Columbus directing and produced by Robert DeNiro, Jane Rosenthal, Columbus, Mark Radcliffe and Michael Barnathan. Stephen Chbosky adapted Larson’s book with nearly all of the original Broadway cast returning to reprise their roles. With a $40 million budget, the film grossed a disappointing $31.6 million. The play marked its 20th anniversary in 2016 with a tour.

Fox’s production will be exec produced by Platt, Adam Siegel, Julie Larson, Al Larson, and Revolution Studios’ Vince Totino, Scott Hemming and Marla Levine. The original production was produced by the New York Theatre Workshop and on Broadway by Jeffrey Seller, Kevin McCollum, Allan S. Gordon and the NYTW. Larson, for his part, also earned a Pulitzer Prize for the production.
Speaking with THR at the Emmys, Walden said Rent “would be a dream — a dream your biggest dream” to land as the network’s next live production. “That would be a title that’s perfect for Fox and something that we could do in a meaningful way. Our network is distinguished by cutting-edge programming and being able to take subject matter — whether it was Glee or Shots Fired — I think our brand is perfect for that title. I would love it.”

Rent, with a legion of loyal and die hard fans, has big shoes to fill. Grease Live ranked third this year at the Emmys, collecting a total of five statuettes including outstanding special class program and directing for Hamilton Tony winner Thomas Kail.

The news comes after Fox announced A Christmas Story would air in December, opposite NBC and Jennifer Lopez with Bye Bye Birdie. NBC also noted this week that it would tackle Jesus Christ Superstar for Easter 2018. (There remains no word on NBC’s A Few Good Men live production.)

Paradigm and Carol Contes of the Guzman Law Group brokered the deal.

“Flash” Star Keiynan Lonsdale Comes Out As Bisexual

"I like who I am and I really like who I’m becoming,” said the 26-year-old actor

Keiynan Lonsdale, who plays Kid Flash on the CW’s The Flash, came out as bisexual in a heartfelt Instagram post this weekend.

  • I like to change my hair, I like to take risks with how I dress,
  • I like girls, & I like guys (yes), I like growing, I like learning,
  •  I like who I am and I really like who I'm becoming.
  • Spent way too many years hating myself, thinking I was
  • less valuable because I was different.. which is just untrue.
  • A couple years ago I was able to accept myself,
  • & it saved my life, but now I've gotten to a new road block
  • & I feel kind of lost. I gotta take the next step & actually
  • embrace who I am, which is pretty exciting.
  • Not faking shit anymore, not apologising for falling in love
  • with people no matter their gender. I've become bored of

  • about themselves, especially when there is so much good life to live.
  • Ya know more & more I see so many young people being their

  • The truth is we are all family, we're all one. Just love. Keiy. ❤
The 25-year-old Australian actor—who’s also appeared in ABC’s Dance Academy, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, and The Finest Hours—wrote “I like to change my hair, I like to take risks with how I dress, I like girls, & I like guys (yes), I like growing, I like learning, I like who I am and I really like who I’m becoming.” He added that he’s tired “of being insecure, ashamed and scared.”

“No one should feel like that about themselves, especially when there is so much good life to live.”

Lonsdale’s character, Wally West, is the younger brother of Flash’s love interest Iris West (Candice Patton) and has similar speed powers as Barry Allen (Grant Gustin).

On Twitter, Lonsdale thanked his fans for their support. “Nothing better than happy tears,” he tweeted. “The love is beyond measurable, thank you. Don’t forget to give that same love back to yourselves.”

Flash creator Greg Berlanti has made the show something of a haven for LGBT talent, including Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold), Andy Mientus (Pied Piper), Victor Garber (Martin Stein) and has incorporated gay characters like Mr. Terrific (Echo Kellum) and police detective David Singh (Patrick Sabongui).

Queer actor Ezra Miller will play the Flash in the upcoming Justice League film.

Portugal Wins 2017 Eurovision Song Contest

This is the first time the country has won the competition
From: NewNowNext
The finale of the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest was an intense nail-biter, but Portugal officially took home the gold with Salvador Sobral for his emotional song “Amar Pelos Dois”. This was the first time Portugal has won the song contest in the 53 years they have competed.

The competition featured an eclectic mix of power ballads, bubblegum pop, (lots of) yodeling and even a metal band that captured the attention of viewers with their elaborate costumes and jaw-dropping choreography.

Organized by the European Broadcasting Union, the competition is in its 62nd year, drawing more than 200 million viewers worldwide. The 2017 Grand Final competition had the theme of “Celebrate Diversity,” and was held in Kiev, Ukraine, where acts representing 42 countries battled it out for the coveted trophy and the right to host next year’s contest in their home country.

The show was going smoothly for most of the evening until towards the end when last year’s winner, Jamala from Ukraine, took the stage to perform and a streaker wrapped in an Australian flag jumped onstage to moon the audience. He was quickly tackled by security and Jamala didn’t miss a beat as she continued performing her number.

This was the second year in a row that Logo broadcast the competition in the U.S. This year Ross Mathews and Michelle Visage were the cable net’s correspondents adding colorful commentary between the performances.

“We live in a world of disposable music, fast food music… Music is not fireworks, music is feeling”, said Sobral, as he accepted the trophy at the end of the night.

Watch Portugal crowned the winner in the video below.

A MOMMA’S BOY

From: Bear World
Today  is Mother’s Day. Whether your mom was Joan Crawford screaming about hangers or Betty Crocker in the kitchen, presently with us or unfortunately deceased, your best friend or someone you haven’t spoken to forever, you will be thinking about your mom at some point.

I’m a momma’s boy, proud to say it and always have been.  For good, or for bad (just ask my exes), it’s been my mom and me flying through life like a musical theater version of Thelma and Louise – learning about life by the seat of our pants.  My mom never got married, wasn’t really ready for me and didn’t really like kids.  Join the club.  And although she chews too loud, talks through movies and doesn’t appreciate Real Housewives, she’s the kind of mom a child would wish for.

I could tell you about the time she “talked to” my sixth grade bully until he peed his pants, or the time she ran down the aisle of the church during Christmas Eve Mass to stop the priest (mid-sentence, mind you) from starting the service so I could sing O Holy Night, or maybe the time she spent her first Christmas bonus on a Nintendo set for me, or the many times she took me out of school midday to go see the latest Star Trek film, or the time she drove an hour and a half at 3 am to West Hollywood because I had thought my car was stolen (I did not in fact, thank God, drive my car that night),  the time she drove a float for Long Beach Pride, and, for sure, I should tell you about the time she flew me to New York City for ONE night just so I could see Broadway Diva Patti Lupone in concert.

But what I want to tell you is the reason she is wearing the same four outfits in all of our family photos from grade school through high school, the reason she is missing from my pictures of trips to Europe and Israel, the reason I had the best education along with voice and acting lessons, the reason I can laugh in the face of adversity, and the reason I can be out and proud is because my mom, along the way, gave everything she had to teach me what unconditional love means.  I came out in November (of course, Thanksgiving) and by June, she was speaking on a panel of professionals for Chapman University’s first ever Gay Pride.  Her message?  You deserve unconditional love, friends are family too – sometimes even more so.  She pushed me through the doors of my first gay club, she convinced me to go to my first GSA, and she convinced me that being gay was another facet of my personality to shine brightly.

Am I bragging?  Maybe just a little.  But – not all of us have these mothers in our life.  During my mom’s volunteer work in the community (everyone calls her Momma Rose) she is constantly hit with stories from the LGBT community (adults and kids alike) of being abandoned physically and emotionally by their family.  This is not something people can heal from alone.  Trying to avoiding the schmaltz police, we do need to love and be loved.   Especially in this current political climate, we all need to “mother” a bit – regardless of gender or age.  The verb to mother literally is “to bring up (a child) with care and affection”.  In this age of cynicism, viral videos of people attacking each other, and fear of being different – we need to mother our community.  I don’t just mean the LGBT or bear community, I mean the community: the elderly, the foreigner, the cat lady living by herself, the ignorant and ill informed, the disabled, the poor – that is our community.

I wouldn’t want you to take tips from my mom on balancing a check book or creating a budget you stick to, and I certainly wouldn’t want you to take cooking tips from her, but her “mothering” tips through example are pretty damn good.  A hug, a shared meal, a phone call, opening the door for someone, sticking up for someone, sharing a joke, even just smiling – its all mothering for our community.  This Mother’s Day, let’s all be mothers.

My name is Alexander, and I’m a Momma’s Boy.

Manchester United hosting Rainbow Laces Summit for LGBT inclusion

Manchester United will host the Rainbow Laces Summit on Monday, May 15. The summit is organized by Stonewall UK and supported by their TeamPride.

The event is designed to inform sports leaders on how to make their sports environments more inclusive for LGBT fans, athletes and more.

“Gain insight into sports fans' attitudes and experiences of anti-LGBT abuse and discover practical ideas to make your sporting environment inclusive for all LGBT people,” the event’s Web site promises.

Attendees and speakers at the event include Premier League executive director William Bush, Football Association chairman Greg Clarke, and various out LGBT athletes including field hockey Olympic couple Helen and Kate Richardson-Walsh, rugger Keegan Hirst and auto racer Danny Watts. Outsports will be attending the summit as well.

Some may find it surprising that the United States’ sports community is years ahead of the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe in combating homophobia in sports from fans, athletes and others. It will be interesting to see what messages Stonewall and others in the UK are using to combat anti-LGBT bias in sports.

In the United States it has been the faces and voices of out LGBT people that have led the fast charge toward inclusion. Curious to see if the folks here focus on LGBT people or the mercurial “straight ally.”

Mother's Day 2017

Trump may have his first 2020 Republican challenger and her name is… Caitlyn Jenner?!

Jesus H. Christ. Please say this isn’t true.
From: Queerty
While speaking to the BBC about her new memoir, Caitlyn Jenner was asked about her old buddy Donald Trump and how she felt he was doing as POTUS, specifically how she felt he was doing on trans issues.

“I thought Trump would be better on these issues,” Jenner said.

We can’t imagine why she thought that. It’s not like Donald ever made any indication that he cared about trans people on the campaign trail, aside from that time he said Jenner was free to use the women’s bathrooms at Trump Towers.

Jenner continued, “It doesn’t make me regret my vote yet, but it is very disappointing and I have been very verbal about that,” adding that she would like to have “more conversation” with The Donald about LGBTQ issues.

Asked directly if she would ever consider entering politics, Jenner had a rather cryptic response. Said she: “I do a lot of political stuff, but it is mostly all behind the scenes. I have been asked that question quite a bit, to be honest with you–over the next year I’m looking into it.”

Did you catch that, folks? Caitlyn Jenner is “looking into” running for office. That sounds frighteningly similar to when Donald Trump said he was “seriously considering” a run for president back in 2014.

Thankfully, Jenner suggested that if she does run, it would probably be for Congress, not the White House. Of course, plans can always change.

“I want to know where can I do a better job for my community, in bringing the Republican Party around when it comes to all LGBT issues,” she said. “Is it from the outside? … Or is it better off being on the inside, and actually running for a Congress or Senate seat? Can I do more good there?”

“Those are the things that I am evaluating.”

14 Young Artists Who Are Changing The Way We Think Of Gender

From: Queerty
Will millennials be remembered as “the gender-fluid generation?” Quite possibly.

According to GLAAD, 12% of millennials currently identify as genderqueer, transgender, or gender non-conforming. Meanwhile, celebrities like actor Tom Phelan, model Andreja Pejic, and rapper Angel Haze are stepping up to show the mainstream exactly what those terms mean.

Get yourself connected with 14 young, creative people who are helping to shape the way the world at large will perceive gender and sexuality in generations to come.

Tommy Dorfman

On May 8th, 13 Reasons Why actor Tommy Dorfman breezed into the MTV Movie Awards wearing a boxy plaid skirt-suit and glimmering sequin platform heels, as one is wont to do.

“I’ve had a lot of insecurities about being gay in this industry,” the actor toldY in 2017.

If that’s still the case, he’s certainly not wearing them on his puffy sleeves.

13 Times Katharine Hepburn Was Queer Perfection

Happy Birthday, Kate!
From: NewNowNext
Katharine Hepburn would be turning 110 this weekend, if the Oscar-winning icon still alive. Rumors about her sexuality persisted throughout Hepburn’s life and, while we can’t make a definitive statement, even she’d admit she had little use for gender norms.

From her intimate friendships women to her physicality and forthrightness—even her film choices and wardrobe—Kate was a queer icon before the term was even coined. In honor of her birthday, we celebrate one of Hollywood’s gayest It girls.

 1
The Bryn Mawr Years

Hepburn took up acting at the all-girl’s college in 1927, when she was cast in the male role of Oliver in The Truth About Blayds. To butch up for the part, she cut her hair with fingernail scissors. After receiving a review that called her “an engaging boy, roguish and merry,” she put on a pair of white trousers and a blazer and took gal pal (and rumored lover) Alice Palache out on the town. The duo were caught on their way home, and warned not to not leave campus again.
