Two Dutch television presenters appear in a steamy naked embrace on the cover of a new gay magazine—but both men are straight.
Jan Versteegh and Tim Hofman, popular TV personalities in the Netherlands, say they posed for L’Homo because they want to challenge how society viewed masculinity and start a frank dialogue about homosexuality.
“I think we have done this for more open discussion of [homosexuality] than we necessarily want to be in a sheet with our bare ass,” says Hofman. “That’s nice, but secondary.’
“I hope we can show people that it’s just two men on a picture,” added Versteegh.
The Dutch are notoriously more progressive about sex and homosexuality, having legalized same-sex sexual activity in 1811.
But are Versteegh and Hofman really taking a stand or capitalizing on a gay moment in pop culture? There’s a whole demographic of Dutch women who would love nothing more than to see these two morning hosts turned into lust objects.
And L’Homo is an offshoot of Linda, a ladies’ magazine.
