Manila Luzon has discussed coming out to her parents, Asian representation on TV, the evolution of drag and how it has impacted the LGBT community in a new interview with NBC News.

“I always wanted to be a drag queen,” said Luzon. “I didn’t tell anyone I wanted to be a drag queen, I just kind of went into my mom’s closet.”

On RuPaul’s Drag Race influencing a new generation of LGBT youth to embrace their authentic selves earlier in life, the season 3 finalist said:

“I just met some moms and their sons and their daughters, and they’re all coming out here to watch drag together. I think it’s super cool that times are changing, people are more into it [drag,] and more open to it at a younger age. It’s kind of cool to see people expressing that part of themselves so early in their lives. I think we’re gonna see a totally new generation of homosexuals out there just being fierce and fabulous, and I’m really excited that I get to see this and that I’m influencing that.”
