Third Annual 100 Most Eligible Bachelors

From:  OUT
OMAR SHARIF JR.

Model/Writer/Activist

Born Omar Joseph El Sharif in Montreal, Quebec, on November 28, 1983, Omar Sharif Jr. was raised moving between Montreal, Paris and Cairo. He graduated college at Queen’s University in Canada and obtained a Master’s Degree in Comparative Politics from The London School of Economics by the age of 23, when he turned his attention to focus on the family business.

Grandson of international actor Omar Sharif and Arabic screen star Faten Hamama, Omar quickly transformed his image from one of irresponsible socialite (garnering much attention from international ad and spokesperson campaigns, and off-screen celebrity relationships) to one of budding young actor, when he exhibited his acting talent and comedic strength in the hit Egyptian TV Series, (2007). This breakout role propelled Omar Jr. into the world of stand-up comedy, where he has since worked on five continents and in five languages. Fluent in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew and Yiddish (his maternal grandparents are Jewish Holocaust survivors), Omar continues to seek out roles internationally. (2009), officially selected by The Venice International Film Festival, earned him much acclaim in his first dramatic role.

In 2010 Omar moved to Los Angeles, California to study at The Lee Strasberg Institute of Theatre and Film. He has since made several appearances across the US in some of the most reputable comedy houses. In 2011, he was selected to be the lone male trophy presenter, and to perform a comedic sketch with Kirk Douglas, at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.
