If you never got into "Roseanne" then you really missed out. (That's Roseanne the series, not the person!) Season One, before Roseanne Barr got control of the show, is adorable if slightly formulaic. And Seasons 6, 7, 8 are noticeably inferior. (And everyone knows about "The Lottery" year.) But that period of Seasons 2 through 5 -- when (real) Becky was becoming a rebellious teenager in love (with Mark), Dan lost the bike shop and Darlene was the Queen of Ennui -- was probably the most realistic (and frequently heartrending) depiction of an American family in the history of television. Here's hoping the revamped version does the show justice.
