“Bachelorette” Contestant Turns Out To Be Transphobic Ass

Bryce says his biggest fear is that “the chick is actually a dude.”

The bios for the contestants of the upcoming 13th season of The Bachelorette were released this Wednesday and surprise, surprise, one of the guys has already made a transphobic remark.

In their bios, the men get a chance to answer a few softball questions and talk about their professions. While a majority of the dudes tend to go a little goofy (“Tickle Monster” was a listed job for one contestant), 30-year-old firefighter Bryce decided to go straight up offensive.

When asked what his biggest date fear is, he replied: “The chick is actually a dude.”

Social media users quickly let him have it for the problematic statement, which supports the ignorant belief that trans people are “betraying” others with their identities when in actuality, they’re just living their truth.

And actor, writer and producer Jen Richards said it best: “Dear Bryce, on behalf of trans women I can assure you – none of us want to date your bland preppy 1980’s teen movie villain rhombus ass.”

Though some might argue that what Bryce said was simply a joke, the issue is that it represents a deep-seated prejudice toward trans people, which manifests not only in discrimination in schools and the workplace, but also in violent and often fatal hate crimes.

And this is hardly the first time a Bachelorette contestant has taken a swing at the LGBT community. Last summer, Chad Johnson attempted to out fellow contender Robby Hayes in an act of revenge.
