We’ve come so far since the only LGBTQ representation on TV was Will & Grace. Now, we don’t need to be thin, white, beautiful lawyers to be the protagonists of our own stories: we have permission to be flaming and fat and fierce and freaky. In the face of so much opposition to the very existence of black lives, queer lives, Muslim lives, trans lives, and so many others, we need to be able to look in the mirror and feel necessary to the world around us. By highlighting people who love their difference, RuPaul encourages us to do the same.
