The Dixie Chicks
The Dixie Chicks are infamous for standing up for their beliefs, from raising awareness about domestic abuse to standing in opposition to the Iraq War. In 2007, when the Chicks were on hiatus, sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson recorded “Ain’t No Son,” about a young man rejected by his father for being gay.
More recently, the trio took a stand against North Carolina’s HB2: While many performers cancelled their North Carolina concerts in protest, the trio gave out hats that read “No Hate in My State” to audience members and teamed up with HRC to educate people about LGBT issues.
