Sam Champion Leaving The Weather Channel After Three Years

What's the next step for America's most famous weatherman?

Out meteorologist Sam Champion is departing the Weather Channel three years after he joined the station.

Champion, 55, signed on to TWC in 2014, after a seven year run on Good Morning America, and had hoped to be a major presence on the channel. But after he was pushed out of the AMHQ morning show in September 2015, Champions role was more undefined.

In March Champion got his own evening show, 23.5°, which will air its final episode December 27, 2016.

There were rumors he tried unsuccessfully to return to GMA, though he did guest host while Ginger Zee was on maternity leave.

He has reportedly relocated to Miami with his husband, Rubem Robierb. Champion officially came out publicly in 2012 when he announced his engagement to Robierb.

“When my love life became a topic of conversation was when I fell in love and wanted to legitimize that relationship,” he told NNN in 2014. “I wanted to say, ‘This is the person that I’m with for my life.”
