Dear Lord, Please Don’t Take Queen Elizabeth

God save the Queen
From: NewNowNext
News that Queen Elizabeth II missed her traditional New Year’s Day church service on Sunday has folks worried about the monarch’s health, especially after the tragic run of deaths that capstoned 2016. Buckingham Palace reports Her Royal Highness “is still recuperating from a heavy cold” that forced her to miss Christmas Mass for the first time in decades.

There’s been no mention of a more serious illness but, at 90, Elizabeth is the longest reigning monarch in British history

The Queen delayed her departure for Christmas in Sandringham Estate in Norfolk because both she and Prince Philip were battling intense colds. Both royals pared down their schedule last year, though Philip, 95, did make it to New Year’s Day services in Norfolk.

She’s overseen numerous scandals during her reign, but Elizabeth is still a beloved figure the world over. Though she doesn’t generally comment on politics or LGBT rights, in 2013, she gave her royal stamp of approval to equal marriage in the United Kingdom.

“Who’d have thought 62 years ago when I came to the throne, I’d be signing something like this?” she reportedly declared at the time. “Isn’t it wonderful?”

Elizabeth also signed the Royal Assent for the decriminalization of homosexuality in Great Britain, the end of the ban on LGBT service members, the introduction of civil partnerships and the repeal of Section 28, which ordered that schools in England and Wales “shall not intentionally promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality.”
