Africa Cup of Nations: Saturday Sport Special Edition

Saturday Sport brings you a special edition today, honoring African Soccer:


 The 31st edition of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, kicks of today, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the competition.  Known as the Total Africa Cup of Nations, Gabon 2017 (also referred to as AFCON 2017 or CAN 2017) is scheduled to take place in the cities of Gabon over the next month, with the championship final game to take place on February 5th.  














 The 16 Qualifiers are classified in 4 groups, and are contesting for a spot in the finals playoff.  The winner will qualify for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, which will be held later this year in Russia.

The inaugural match of the Total Africa Cup of Nations will took place at the Stade de l'Amitié, Libreville this afternoon, with Gabon pitted against Guinea-Bissau.  This was followed at the same stadium with a match between Burkina Faso and Cameroon to wrap up opening day festivities.
