6 LGBT Superheroes We Want To See In The DC Extended Universe

Renee Montoya

With all the throwaway police officers Christopher Nolan cooked up in his Dark Knight trilogy, you’d think he could have included some GCPD fan favorites from the comics. Hopefully lesbian Detective Renee Montoya will make it into the mix, perhaps in the next stand-alone Batman film.

In current DC continuity, Montoya isn’t a superhero, but before the 2012 company reboot, she was the enigmatic Question, who skirted the line between justice and vengeance. In the comics, Renee had a complicated relationship with Batwoman and, on the small screen, she’s already appeared in Fox’s Gotham.

Orange is the New Black’s Laura Gรณmez could definitely embody this tough-as-nails woman whose no-nonsense attitude provides a stark contrast to both the costumed freaks and corrupt cops of Gotham City.

 Liam Hemsworth

We love Australian born Liam Hemsworth and fully recognize that many fans of the site constantly bicker with one another about which of the Hemsworth brothers is hotter – Chris or Liam.

Born on January 13, 1990, Liam is a super tall otter and stands at 6’3! Like some of the other stars mentioned here, he straddles the world of otter and jock. Based on his appearance in the movie, Cut Bank however, he’s not ready for the move just yet. And if he never leaves otter-world, that’s fine too because he’s already smoking hot!

Perk Yourself Up With A Cup Of Tom Of Finland Coffee

"To be able to see the work Tom of Finland... in the aisles of supermarkets and department stores can be life-changing."
From: NewNowNext
We’ve seen Tom of Finland jeans, Tom of Finland sex toys and even Tom of Finland stamps. Now you can get your caffeine fix while you ogle hyper-masculine hunks with Tom of Finland coffee.

Robert Paulig Roastery has chosen the gay artist, born Touko Laaksonen, for its latest Arts Roast. The coffee is available in two varieties—”Built Bold” (medium roast) or “Heavy Duty” (dark roast)—in packages adorned with four different homoerotic designs.

The coffee’s dark roast flavor is representative of the allure of Tom’s men—unapologetic, self-aware and boastfully proud.

With an intriguing blend of Arabica beans, the taste is dominated by Mexican flavors, mixed with Brazilian and Colombian notes and nuanced with an intriguing nutty tone. All Robert Paulig Roastery coffees are slow roasted in small batches, for enhanced body and taste

The roaster says it wanted to salute the advancement of gay rights and show that coffee isn’t just something dad drinks on his way to work.

“For us Finns, coffee is almost sacred, and we often go for familiar and safe products,” says Robert Paulig president Juhani Oranen. “We encourage you to turn your coffee drinking into an adventure, and take Tom’s men along with you for the ride.”

Oranen calls Tom of Finland a “pop culture icon” whose “masculine characters are a celebration of tolerance and joie de vivre.”

“To be able to see the work Tom of Finland, key protagonist for sexual liberation and human rights—in the aisles of supermarkets and department stores can be life-changing,” says the Tom of Finland Foundation’s Durk Dehner. “We hope it will influence the younger generation to embrace all personal identity.”

For now Tom of Finland coffee will only be on supermarket shelves in Finland, but you should be able to buy it online soon. It will also be available at Kunsthalle Helsinki in conjunction with the upcoming exhibition “Tom of Finland,” running May 7 to August 7, 2016.

Want more Tom? The creative duo behind Pansy Ass Ceramics have launched a limited edition line of Tom of Finland dishes.

Nick S82: No Pictures Please!

From: Favorite Hunks & Other Things
 'I'm your biggest fan
I'll follow you until you love me
Papa-Paparazzi'

I love the exploration of theme and story within imagery, and in this set from photographer Nick S82, the theme is one I find especially fascinating. Nick's describes his shoots as mainly model-driven with a focus on body image, conscious vs subconscious body language and a variety of themes related to masculine physicality. Since I began featuring his work last year, Nick's focus has been clear and he doesn't usually give his models much to hide behind. Few props or diversions to take away from his focus.
Nick's stark way of capturing the male form contrasts the theme presented  here. Many celebrities, whose success if often connected to their level of fame, sometimes have a love/hate relationship with the press. Paparazzi have earned their negative reputation, but not because of what they do, but because of how many in the field choose to do it.

Not every celebrity wants their picture taken 24/7.  Most welcome it on the red carpet or a promotional event, but despise the intrusion at other times, especially when out with children and family.  Despite having a site based on images, I am not one of those people who believes it goes with the territory,  To me, taking someone's photo is an intimate interaction, and one that should occur only with their support and permission.  I know many disagree, but given how easy it is today to snap a picture of anyone, at any time, boundaries are important to respect.

Although it may be difficult for some to believe that some celebrities may not enjoy having their picture taken, it may be even more difficult to believe the same about models.  One of the reasons Nick's 'No Pictures' theme interested me so much is because of how many models hose images that I have featured seemed to HATE having their picture taken.

Not every actor wants fame, and oddly enough, not every model likes or wants to have their picture taken. It may seem an oxymoron, but many models I have interviewed, and many more who passed on being interviewed, don't want any attention at all about their work and images.  Some models get into the business as a stepping stone to another career, many, like with every other job that exists, do it simply because they need to make a living.

Sometimes a models feelings about being in front of the camera come through clearly in their work. Most times however, with a talented model, and a skilled artist behind the lens, all we see as viewers is what the model and photographer choose for us to see.

Nick Jonas has officially gone R&B with the release of “Close,” the lead single off his forthcoming third studio album, Last Year Was Complicated.

The new single features Tove Lo and marks Nick’s first major release since last year’s “Levels.” In a video that dropped late last week, the singers nail an intense contemporary dance set in an empty warehouse, and intertwine their bodies while slowly shedding clothes down to their underwear.

Nick dropped the official album artwork on on Twitter along with a link to pre-order the album ahead of its June 10 release.

“It’s a song about feeling like you can’t be vulnerable with somebody,” Nick says of “Close.” Check out the video below:

Meet The First Transgender Cover Model For “Men’s Health” In Germany

“I feel so grateful, and I hope that I can open doors for other trans guys.”
From: BuzzFeed
When 29-year-old Benjamin Melzer, the first transgender man to be on the cover of Men’s Health Germany, stopped by BuzzFeed News for a chat, he brought along his mom Margret. Soft-spoken and low-key, Melzer doesn’t demand attention — until he gets in front of a camera, where he somehow feels at home.

“Modeling, standing in front of the camera is so my thing. It doesn’t feel like work. I just love it,” Melzer said. “I don’t care if it’s all day long and if it’s exhausting, if I’m freezing, I just love it. It feels right for me.”

Melzer grew up near Cologne, Germany knowing early on that he felt like a boy. “Since I was little I looked up to cover models, like being on Men’s Health or GQ, like really masculine men with good bodies, good physiques.” Yet he also felt like the ideal those men represented were out of reach for him, until he started medical transition at 24. Through hard work at the gym, found his own body resembling those men. And eventually, he started doing some amateur modeling.

“The first time I was in front of a camera that gave me the feeling of, this is where you belong, this is what you’re born for, and this is what you need to do.”

So when he heard that Aydian Dowling was a finalist for the Men’s Health cover contest in the United States last year, he decided to enter the same contest in Germany. He won an online audience vote to be one of the guys considered for the cover, and went on to a final casting where he got to meet 19 other guys who were up for the same gig. Eventually, he was chosen to be one of five guys to be on the cover of the magazine’s collector’s edition.

Melzer expressed a lot of satisfaction about being shown as just one among a group of guys. “That’s what I want [being trans] to be, just normal. We don’t have a choice, and it just is the way it is, and we can make the best of it,” he said.

Growing up in a family that didn’t force him to dress in a feminine way allowed Melzer to come to terms with being trans without a lot of turmoil. He was able to present himself as masculine in school, and ended up dating a woman he knew from college, after they met up five years ago, a month after his first T shot.

“But for her, I always looked and acted like a boy,” Melzer said. “It was just the body. And I was on my way to fix that.” His girlfriend, who identifies as straight and had only dated cisgender men before Melzer, told him that he didn’t have to go through the whole process and get bottom surgery, but it was Melzer’s choice to proceed. It’s an operation that the German government requires health insurance companies to cover.

Having transitioned to have a face and body that few people would be able to distinguish from cisgender men, Melzer remains open about being transgender, both in his career and with people he encounters in his day-to-day life. “There’s a trainer at the gym, a coach. We see each other when I’m at the gym, and she’s always talking to me, we’re good with each other. She’s like, ‘Hey what happened to your arm?’” Melzer has a large rectangular scar on his forearm from where skin was grafted for his surgery. “Sometimes I say ‘None of your business’ but this time I was so me, I really wanted to tell her. So I did, and her reaction was, ‘What? Really? Are you kidding me?’ And she’s so interested in it, and she’s so curious, and now she’s proud to know me.”

At the same time, Melzer is also aware that not everyone has the privilege of being able to choose when to come out to people as trans, or a body that’s celebrated in men’s magazines. “Not everybody has to look like me,” he said. “I think we all have beauty inside. That’s what counts at the end of the day.” Melzer also tries to motivate and give tips to other trans men through his social media channels.
“A lot of people say, you’re my hero, I look up to you, but at the end of the day you have to look in the mirror because the hero’s standing right in front of you,” he said.

Melzer’s goal is to be a full-time male model, and he has one specific fantasy job in mind. “My life goal would be to appear in a Calvin Klein commercial, not wearing anything but boxer shorts or briefs,” he said. Melzer got closer to that goal on his trip to New York, where he was shot by celebrity photographer Mark Saliger for an upcoming project. “He’s had almost everybody in front of his camera. I mean Charlize Theron, she’s one of the most beautiful women in the world. Brad Pitt, I love Brad Pitt. I wanna be Brad Pitt!”

“I feel so grateful,” Melzer concluded, “and I hope that I can open doors for other trans guys who would love to work in the modeling business.”
