Elton John will perform at George Michael’s funeral, reports the Daily Star. He will reportedly sing a poignant version of their hit duet “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.”

Sir John, of course, performed “Candle in the Wind” at Princess Diana’s Westminster Abbey funeral in 1997, where Michael was in attendance.

“There will be so many mourners and friends. It will be the biggest funeral since George’s mate Di’s” a source told the paper. “Elton will sing as he did for Diana’s funeral as a final farewell.”

After learning of his fellow pop icon’s death, Sir Elton tweeted, “I am in deep shock. I have lost a beloved friend – the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist.”

Mourners are likely to include former Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley, as well as celebrity friends like Geri Halliwell and Paul McCartney.

“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” was originally released as the first single from Elton John’s 1974 album, Caribou, but reached Number One in 1991, when it was rereleased as a duet between John and George Michael. The pair previously performed it at Live Aid several years prior.
