Openly gay Pennsylvania state Representative Brian Sims has won reelection, according to an email sent to supporters from his campaign.

“This election has shown us a side of American politics we haven’t seen in generations,” Sims wrote. “Despite all of the negativity, I am proud that we have worked together to move the District, Commonwealth, and Nation forward. I am looking forward to continuing the fight in Harrisburg for our shared progressive values and continuing to earn the privilege of serving all of you.”

“The election may be over, but the work is just beginning,” he concluded. “There is so much to do to ensure that our schools are funded, women’s rights are fully protected, and that everyone in our Commonwealth is guaranteed the same protections under the law. I am as energized as ever to continue the fight with you.”

Sims also took to Facebook to celebrate his victory, thanking his constituents for their “steadfast generosity” and “encouragement.”

An ardent Clinton supporter, Sims recently made headlines when he encouraged bars in Philadelphia’s gayborhood to stop selling Yuengling beer after the brewery’s owner expressed support for Trump.
