Naked for a good cause!
Davey Havok, the AFI, Blaqk Audio, and XTRMST front man appears naked beside a microphone in the provocative new print ad, which features the words “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Leather. Rock the Skin You Were Born In. Let Animals Keep Theirs”.

Yesterday, he unveiled a brand new anti-leather campaign with PETA (People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and Billboard has an exclusive first look at the photo and video.

“I’d rather go naked than wear leather,” the campaign mantra goes, along with the tagline, “Rock the skin you were born in. Let animals keep theirs.”

In a video he made as part of the campaign, Havok explains, “I was raised on rock ‘n’ roll, like many people, and the leather jacket was a part of that culture. But no article of clothing, feeling of confidence, or otherness is worth the torture or the murder of an innocent creature.”

Leather is a by-product of the meat industry, and making it has a negative impact on the environment. “[I]f you are wearing leather whilst not eating animals, you’re still contributing to the destruction of the ecosphere,” he says.

Havok joins a long list of musicians, including No Doubt’s Tony Kanal, Dave Navarro, Tommy Lee, Travis Barker, Paul MCCartney, Pink, Trent Reznor, and Morrissey, who have teamed up with PETA to promote kindness to all creatures.

Davey’s eye-catching new ad has been released as his band AFI prepares for the 20 January (17) release of its new album, The Blood Album.
