Julia Roberts is getting ready to turn 49, but she revealed a rather unusual birthday wish Friday night at the GLSEN Respect Awards, honoring those who improve the lives of LGBT people.
Roberts was on hand at the gala, held at L.A.’s Beverly Wilshire Hotel, to present the Visionary Award to Time Inc’s Jess Cagle.
“It is my pleasure every year to support GLSEN,” the Oscar winner said. “I love this night. I told the kids backstage that this is, like, my third favorite night of the year. And one and two, also, but don’t tell anyone.”
She then told the audience that her another favorite day is her birthday, which is next Friday.
“If you wake up next Friday and think, what should I get Julia for her birthday then donate to GLSEN. I’m going to be 49, so a $49 donation would be great. Thank you.”
Actress Kate Hudson received GLSEN’s Inspiration Award, while YouTuber Connor Franta, 15-year-old student advocate Edward Estrada and Target were also honored.
“To create any real change and real movement, we all know that it starts with our children in their home environment and in their schools,” said Hudson.
The evening, which also included guests and presenters like Jim Parsons, Robbie Rogers and Greg Berlanti, Charlie Carver, Matt Bomer, Milo Ventimiglia, Garrett Clayton and Kate Mulgrew, raised approximately $1.1 million for GLSEN.
