Democrat’s GoFundMe Campaign Raises $13,117 to Reopen Firebombed NC GOP Office

From: Towleroad

David Weinberger, a Democrat from Brookline, Massachusetts, raised more than $13,000 in less than four hours to rebuild the NC GOP office that was firebombed over the weekend.

Weinberger called out to fellow Democrats to donate to a GoFundMe campaign, Quartz reports.

Wrote Weinberger on the campaign page:

As Democrats, we are starting this campaign to enable the Orange County, North Carolina Republican office to re-open as soon as possible. Until an investigation is undertaken, we cannot know who did this or why. No matter the result, this is not how Americans resolve their differences. We talk, we argue, sometimes we march, and most of all we vote. We do not resort to violence by individuals or by mobs. So, let’s all pitch in, no matter what your party affiliation, and get that office open again quickly.

WTVD reported on the attack:

It happened at 347 Ja-Max Drive and was discovered Sunday morning by another business owner. Officials said it happened between 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday. The graffiti included a swastika and the words “Nazi Republicans leave town or else,” which was spray-painted in black on the side of an adjacent building.
Authorities said the flammable substance ignited inside the building, burning furniture and damaging the interior of the building. It was contained in a bottle thrown through the window. The window had lettering on it that said, “Freedom Speaks.”
Dallas Woodhouse, executive director of the North Carolina Republican Party, called the attack “political terrorism,” and said the party will not succumb to it.

Governor Pat McCrory released a statement calling it “an attack on our democracy:”

“The firebombing of a local political headquarters in Orange County is clearly an attack on our democracy. Violence has no place in our society – but especially in our elections. Fortunately no one was injured; however, I will use every resource as governor to assist local authorities in this investigation.”

Hillary Clinton responded to the attack yesterday afternoon:

Donald Trump, of course, blamed the attack on “animals representing Hillary Clinton.”
