Trump Donated $100,000 To Louisiana Church Headed By Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins

 During his trip to flood-ravaged Louisiana, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump visited Greenwell Springs Baptist Church, a congregation currently led by Tony Perkins, the anti-LGBT pastor and Family Research Council president who previously stated that natural disasters are caused by gay people.

Trump met with Perkins and members of the church in a gathering on Friday. The interim pastor told the presidential nominee that nearly 80 percent of the congregation had been affected by the immense flooding in Baton Rouge, including Perkins himself.

The FRC president went on to lambaste the federal government’s lack of response to the natural disaster, alleging that the government is attempting to diminish the role of churches that provide disaster relief.

Following their meeting, Trump reportedly donated $100,000 to their relief effort.

According to the church’s “Statement on Marriage and Sexuality,” members of Greenwell Springs Baptist believe that “any form of sexual immorality, such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography or any attempt to change one’s sex, or disagreement with one’s biological sex, is sinful and offensive to God.”

Perkins served as a Louisiana delegate to this year’s Republican National Convention and took credit for helping to create what many have come to regard as the most anti-LGBT platform in the party’s history.

In addition to opposing marriage equality, it denounces the rights of transgender individuals to use the restroom facilities that align with their gender identities and supports a parent’s choice to enroll their LGBT child in conversion therapy.
