“On the heels of tremendous outcry from legions of devoted fans, CMT, Hulu, Lionsgate and ABC Studios today announced that the critically acclaimed and fan darling series Nashville will return with a brand new season on CMT,” a spokesperson told NNN.

“Long-time SVOD partner Hulu will continue to bring fans their favorite series 24/7 by making all Nashville episodes available to stream the day after they air on CMT.

Brian Philips, president of CMT, described the love and support the show has been receiving as “overwhelming.”

Nashville is a perfect addition to our evolving line-up of big music specials, documentaries and original series. We see our fans and ourselves in this show, and we will treasure it like no other network,” said Philips. “Nashville belongs on CMT.”

Season Five (which will stream on Hulu the day after it airs) will have 22 episodes and feature new show runners, producing partners Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick (thirtysomething, My So-Called Life, Once and Again, ).

The cast is not expected to change.

The big question is what’s in store for out singer Will Lexington (Chris Carmack)? When we left Will, he had finally made peace with being a “gay country singer,” and reunited with former boyfriend Kevin (Kyle Dean Massey).

We’ve never heard of a nighttime drama where the course of love ran smoothly, so we’re sure the couple will face new obstacles. And it will still be difficult for Will to get a foothold in country music as an out gay man.

Now that Nashville is returning, what do you hope to see in Will Lexington’s future?
