Vigils For Orlando Held In New York, L.A., Toronto, Chicago And Beyond

We will not be silenced.
From: NewNowNext
The senseless massacre in Orlando sparked fear, anger and confusion around the nation. But it also was a call to arms for the LGBT community, reminding us that our rights—and our very lives—are still under attack.

Hundreds of thousands of people took part in vigils across America
—to honor those who died, to give solace to each other, and to let those who would harm us know that we stand strong.
Hundreds gathered in front of New York’s historic Stonewall Inn, the symbolic birthplace of the modern LGBT rights movement.

In Washington, DC, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington performed “We Shall Overcome” in front of the White House.

While in Orlando itself, the Orlando Gay Chorus sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “True Colors” at Joy Metropolitan Community Church.

There were vigils in Seattle.

San Francisco’ Castro District.

Even on Fire Island, where gays have been going to get away from it all for decades, thoughts turned to those who were lost.

In Vancouver, a candlelight vigil was held on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

In Nashville, the Omni Hotel was lit up in rainbow colors.

As was New York’s One World Trade Center.

And City Hall.
