Meet Corey Brooks, The Resident Homophobe On “Big Brother”

The 25-year-old baseball coach has a history of using anti-gay slurs on Twitter.

 The upcoming season of Big Brother hasn’t even started yet, but one of the house guests has already revealed himself to be a raging homophobe.

The 12 contestants who will walk into the famed Big Brother house when the show’s 18th cycle premieres tonight are all currently in sequester. They can’t see what the outside world has been saying about them since CBS premiered the new cast last week, but if they could, Corey Brooks would probably be covering his head in shame.

On Twitter, the 25-year-old baseball coach apparently has a history of using homophobic language.

Among tweets that have since been deleted, Brooks has repeatedly used the anti-gay slur “faggot” and the word “gay” as an pejorative dig. Big Brother fan blog Hamsterwatch was able to post screenshots before the tweets were erased:

“The Notebook is the greatest movie of all time,” Brooks said in one tweet. “I don’t care if you think I’m a faggot.”

Brooks has also called Justin Bieber “gay” and repeatedly called others “fags.”

Brooks’ defenders, however, have pointed out the fact that Brooks’ use of offensive language on Twitter is at least six years old.

While some have called for CBS to condemn the statements or remove Brooks from the house preemptively, others have pointed out that the Big Brother house has a way of weeding the actual racists and homophobes out from those who’ve just made ignorant statements in the past.

In 2013, Big Brother 15 house guest Aaryn Gries was sufficiently raked over the coals by the public after making several racist and homophobic remarks during her time in the house.

But the public was a little more forgiving the following year when Big Brother 16 house guest Caleb Reynolds, who had a similar history of using homophobic language on social media, turned out to be one of gay house guest Frankie Grande’s strongest allies.

Big Brother Access adds:

“Really though, this comes as no surprise as CBS continues to frequently employ Jeff Schroeder, who went on an anti-gay tirade on Big Brother 13. He’s also made nasty homophobic comments throughout his reality TV career. So expect this stereotype of casting homophobes to continue on Big Brother and every season.”

For Brooks, only time will tell. According to his housemates’ pre-show interviews, there will be at least one gay man in the house when the show premieres this week.
