FBI Increasingly Unconvinced Orlando Shooter Was Gay

Witnesses had reportedly seen him at Pulse on many occasions.

Authorities are now skeptical that the shooter who killed 49 people in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub early Sunday morning was gay, according to The New York Times.

Earlier reports claimed Omar Mateen had been seen at Pulse many times, and had been removed for being drunk and disorderly. He was reportedly seen on gay dating apps like Jack’d and a former coworker claimed Mateen even asked him out.

Law enforcement officials, who said they would follow up those leads, are now in possession of the shooter’s cellphone. Whether information gleaned from his phone has made them doubt Mateen was homosexual is unclear.

There is speculation his presence at Pulse and on apps was to case the property and find victims. His current wife, Noor Zahi Salman, admitted she drove Mateen to Pulse nightclub days before the attack to “assess the target.” (Salman claims she tried to talk him out of the attack)

The FBI has also uncovered five separate Facebook accounts operated by the shooter, used to make threats and boast of his allegiance to the Islamic State and its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Sateen reportedly searched for references to the massacre while he was carrying it out.
