In the wake of the horrific attack on Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Disney has donated $1 million to the victims and families.

Disney, the parent company of Marvel Comics, will also match donations from employees dollar for dollar.

“We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

“With 74,000 cast members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones.”

The money will be directed to the OneOrlando fund, established by mayor Buddy Dyer, to help with medical expenses and funeral costs.

It’s a wonderful gesture—and perhaps we’re a little jaded by the week’s events—but it would have been all the better if Chapek had addressed that this was an attack on the LGBT community. Disney theme parks employ thousands of LGBT people and the company has been a trailblazer in regards to inclusive policies.
