Cyndi Lauper Speaks Out Against HB2 During North Carolina Concert

We told you that Cyndi Lauper feels that musicians should go support citizens of North Carolina, instead of boycotting the state, and the singer did just that at a show in Raleigh on Saturday.

“I was just surprised that you would want to go back to that kind of law that would promote that much discrimination again,” she said in a news conference. “I thought we were stepping forward.”

Lauper, who founded the True Colors Fund to help end homelessness among LGBT youth, also visited Raleigh’s LGBT center while she was there and gave hope to some of the transgender youth.

Human Rights Campaign praised Lauper for her decision.

“We are deeply thankful she has taken time to meet with LGBTQ youth in North Carolina and hear firsthand the destructive impact Gov. McCrory’s deeply discriminatory law is having on their lives,” said JoDee Winterhof, senior VP for Policy and Political Affair.

He added, “It is imperative for the future of these young people and the future of the entire state of North Carolina that HB2 be repealed and replaced by commonsense non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people.”
