March 13th is IUGR Awareness Day

IUGR Awareness Day was created to raise awareness about Intrauterine Growth Restriction, a condition which affects the growth of babies while in the womb. IUGR babies weigh less than 90% of other developing babies at the same gestational age and a diagnosis is often made by measuring a pregnant mother’s fundus (top of the uterus) to the pubic bone (after the 20th week) or through an ultrasound. Although there are many possible causes, often there is no known cause. IUGR is diagnosed in tens of thousands of babies around the globe. Though IUGR babies may continue to face medical/developmental issues after birth, they go on to lead full, meaningful lives. For more information about IUGR, contact IUGRAwareness@gmail.com
