International Fanny Pack Day was established by Nick Yates in 2007 when he gave a homeless man, in Portland, OR, some fruitcake he had in his fanny pack. The exchange was not a positive experience but food charity and fanny packs were lumped together. Sometimes called belt bags fanny packs are a useful accessory that give you a sense of freedom since your shoulders/hands don't have to carry your essentials.
