“Changes”
David Bowie
David is the only artist with two songs on this list, and they highlight how different chart-watching was in the 70’s. Back then, you could maintain a career without necessarily having enormous chart support, and during the entire decade, David only had four top 40 hits on the Hot 100. “Changes” missed that spot by one, peaking at #41 in 1972, but has become an enduring classic.
