20 Songs Everyone Knows That Didn’t Hit The Top 40!

“Baba O’Riley”
The Who

The Who was one of those artists that was known more for its collective catalog than chart hits (in the entirety of their career, they had one top ten song). “Baba O’Riley” was released as a single in a couple of countries in late 1971, but was not released as a single in the UK or U.S., thus missing the pop chart altogether.

Of course, its legacy as an iconic rock classic speaks for itself. From the opening notes, the song is unmistakable, and the phrase “teenage wasteland” is synonymous with the group and that era. But for some reason, listening to that opening always makes me want to go out and investigate crimes.
