February 4th is Medjool Date Day

The Bard Valley Natural Delights group of growers has proclaimed Feb. 4 National Medjool Date Day.

“Medjool dates have given the world nutrition and unparalleled taste for generations, so it seems appropriate they receive their own holiday,” Ed O’Malley, president of Natural Delights medjool dates packer-shipper Datepac, said in the release. “We are excited to be able to create a day devoted to this universally beloved fruit.”

National Medjool Date Day is aimed at celebrating the fruit as a healthy snack and ingredient in salads, appetizers, entrees and smoothies.
