NBC’s sassy sitcom about a group of African-American women living in the same apartment building stole our hearts back in the day.

Based on Christine Houston’s 1978 play of the same name, it starred Marla Gibbs as gossipy matron Mary Jenkins; Hal Williams as her construction-worker husband, Lester; a young Regina King as their daughter, Brenda; Alaina Reed Hall as Mary’s bff, Rose Lee Holloway; Helen Martin as neighborhood sassafrass Pearl Shay and, of course, Jackée Harry as man-hungry Sandra Clark.
