Maybe it’s because it’s 70 degrees in New York and I have the air conditioner on, but I’m finding it a little tough to get into the Christmas spirit today.
But if there’s anyone who can ram the holiday spirit down our throats until we’re just gagging with cheer, its a young Liza Minnelli.
In this rare clip, Liza is so perky she’s practically manic, singing and flailing too “Ding-A-Ling, I Feel So Christmas-sy!” with Cyril Ritchard.

The bizarre number is actually from the 1965 (Original Air Date: November. 28, 1965) broadcast of Dangerous Christmas of Little Red Riding Hood, with 19-year-old Liza as Red and Ritchard as the Wolf (in grandma drag).
“Christmas-y” has some pretty strong musical pedigree, too— it was written by Jule “Funny Girl” Styne and Bob “(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?” Merrill.
Should we make it a new gay holiday carol? Yes, I think we should.
