One of the American heroes who stopped a terrorist on a Paris train earlier this year is listed in serious condition after being stabbed this morning leaving a gay nightclub in Sacramento.

US Air Force Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone was out barhopping with three women and another man, and reportedly got into an altercation with another group while leaving Badlands Dance Club on K Street.

Stone was stabbed multiple times during the fight and taken to UC Davis Medical Center. Police said he sustained significant injuries but is expected to survive.

“We firmly believe that this is not a terrorism-related event and that it is in no way related to the incident that occurred in France,” said Sacramento Deputy Poice Chief Ken Bernard. “The assault does not appear to be a random act and is believed to be a nightlife related incident.”

Bernard said police also did not believe it was a bias attack or something involving bar staff.

The suspects, described as three or four Asian men wearing white T-shirts and jeans, fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Video surveillance footage from a nearby store shows the fight, with Stone suddenly sporting a large blood stain on his shirt, but the stabbing itself is not visible

In August Stone, along with friends Alex Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, thwarted a gunman armed with an assault rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunition on a Paris-bound train.

President Francois Hollande awarded the men, along with British businessman Chris Norman, the Legion d’Honneur, France’s highest award. The men were also treated to a visit to President Obama in the White House.

Our thoughts are with Airman Stone and we hope he makes a speedy recovery.
