September 25th is (World) Ataxia Awareness Day

Every year on September 25 is International Ataxia Awareness Day (IAAD). Ataxia is a medical condition that describes the inability to maintain coordination and balance. A person with ataxia may experience difficulty talking, swallowing or moving his/her eyes, fingers, hands, legs, arms, and body.
Ataxia, which in Greek means ‘lack of coordination’, can be diagnosed as a symptom for infections or injuries in the central nervous system or as a group of degenerative diseases of the nervous system, which are called hereditary and sporadic ataxias.
